A 19-YEAR-old Dianella man has been bashed with what police believe was a metal baseball bat outside a Sizzler restaurant early Sunday morning.

West Metro Detectives are investigating the assault that occurred in the carpark of the Sizzler restaurant in Walter Road, Dianella, between 12.30am and 1am on Sunday.

The victim, Jason, 19, says he remembers little of the attack and described his attackers as “gutless.”

He said there were two girls in one of the cars and he was attacked by one man who got out of the car and bashed.

“It happened pretty quick . . . it was the most painful thing that has happened to me,” Jason said.

“I tried to be passive, I wasn’t provoking them or anything.

“When I saw the bat I was pretty scared, I just tried to calm him (the offender) down.”

Jason said he was not sure how severe his eye injury was at this stage.

“I’ve got a fractured cheekbone, a fractured eye socket . . . it’s pretty painful at the moment,” he said.

“I have to go back to hospital on Monday when the swelling goes down.

“I didn’t really deserve to get this.”

Detective First Class Constable Melissa Rimmer of Mirrabooka Detectives said the attack was cowardly and urged members of the public to come forward with information.

“I do believe that it is an isolated incident, that the public should not be alarmed,” Detective First Class Constable Rimmer said.

The male with the baseball bat is described as caucasian, 170cm tall, medium build and had a goatee beard.

Police said Jason, and other witnesses, were in the car park when two vehicles, a black Hyundai Excel and a brown Holden Sedan, drove in and words were exchanged.

Both vehicles then stopped and one of the occupants of the Holden got out and was armed with what was possibly a metal baseball bat.

He smashed a window of a witness’s vehicle (rear passenger side) before striking the victim in the side of the head causing a fractured cheek and eye socket and substantial bruising.

A second person got out of the Hyundai and was also armed with a similar weapon but took no action.

Police would like any person that may have witnessed the incident or has any information to contact Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
